1. Introduction
The purpose of this safety policy is to ensure the protection of all employees, clients, and visitors from potential hazards associated with electrical contracting activities. This policy outlines the safety procedures and practices required to maintain a safe working environment.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all employees, subcontractors, and any other personnel involved in electrical contracting activities under the company’s operations.
3. Responsibilities
  • Management: Ensure the implementation and enforcement of this safety policy, provide necessary training, and maintain safety records.
  • Supervisors: Monitor compliance with safety procedures, conduct regular safety inspections, and address any safety concerns promptly.
  • Employees: Follow all safety procedures, report unsafe conditions, and participate in safety training programs.
4. General Safety Rules
  • Always adhere to the company's safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and insulated footwear.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions immediately to a supervisor.
  • Do not engage in any electrical work unless you are trained and authorized to do so.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents.
5. Electrical Safety Procedures
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): Ensure all electrical circuits and equipment are de-energized before starting work. Follow the company’s LOTO procedures.
  • Testing: Always test circuits and equipment with appropriate testing devices to verify de-energization before beginning work.
  • Tools and Equipment: Use only properly maintained and rated tools and equipment for electrical work. Inspect tools and equipment before use.
  • Working Near Live Circuits: Avoid working near live circuits. If unavoidable, use insulated tools and wear appropriate PPE.
6. Emergency Procedures
  • Electrical Shock: If someone receives an electrical shock, do not touch them if they are still in contact with the electrical source. Shut off the power immediately and call for emergency medical assistance.
  • Fire: In case of an electrical fire, use a Class C fire extinguisher. Do not use water on electrical fires.
  • Evacuation: Follow the main contractors evacuation procedures in the event of a fire or other emergency.
7. Training and Certification
  • Initial Training: All new employees must undergo comprehensive safety training before beginning work.
  • Ongoing Training: Employees must participate in regular safety training sessions to stay updated on safety practices and procedures.
  • Certification: Employees must hold relevant certifications and licenses for specific electrical tasks as required by law and company policy.
8. Inspections and Audits
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of work sites to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Perform periodic audits of safety practices and procedures to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
9. Incident Reporting and Investigation
  • Report all incidents, including near-misses, to a supervisor immediately.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of all incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
10. Continuous Improvement
  • Review and update this safety policy regularly to reflect new safety standards, regulations, and company practices.
  • Encourage employee feedback on safety practices and incorporate suggestions for improvement.
11. Compliance
  • Comply with all relevant Electrical regulations (BS7671) and building regulations regarding electrical safety.
  • Ensure all work practices align with standards set by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and BS7671:2018).
